About the concept

Where are Slow Cabins® located?

Our Slow Cabins® are nestled away on the beautiful rewilded Burren Nature Sanctuary outside the charming fishing village of Kinvara, Co. Galway, just off the famous Wild Atlantic Way.

Set on a 50-acre organic farm featuring Burren habitats which showcase the flora in its natural setting: shattered limestone pavement, calcareous orchid-rich grassland, ash and hazel woodland and a unique tidal, freshwater turlough – a disappearing lake.

You can easily spend a few days around the quaint village of Kinvara or visit one of the many local attractions nearby – from Dunguaire Castle, The Burren Perfumery, Aillwee caves and many more. A little further afield you can explore the Cliffs of Moher, Burren National Park or the vibrant cultural center of the West – Galway City.

You can easily get to Galway City (35min by car to the cabins) from all major cities. From here, if you have little luggage and are feeling adventurous, you can hop on the 350 bus from Galway train station to Kinvara and then walk 1.5km to the cabins. Otherwise, you can take a taxi. Our cabins have one queen-sized bed and are therefore suitable for up to 2 people sharing.

If you are looking to sleep more than this for a small group, you can of course book multiple cabins.

Our cabins are not suitable for children due to safety hazards and therefore, insurance reasons.

  • Just book as normal and be sure to add your furry friend as an additional extra so we can allocate your cabin correctly.
  • Please email info@slowcabins.ie to arrange this if you have not included this already in your booking.
  • This is at an additional fee of €35 for the duration of your stay.
  • We will have a bed ready for your furry friend as well as a water bowl and poo bags.
  • Our cabins do not have an enclosed fence area for your pet to roam free.
  • When outside the cabin, your pet must be kept on a lead at all times as we are situated in a nature sanctuary where there are many wild animals we must not disturb.
  • 10% of all our dog packages will go straight to Madra Dog Rescue, Galway.
  • If you have any specific requests, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate.

Yes, the site the cabins are on, the Burren Nature Sanctuary has lots to offer as well as the local village of Kinvara.

Are the cabins warm enough in Winter?

Our Slow Cabins® are very well insulated, using only natural materials. Inside the cabin, there is a highly efficient wood-burning stove that warms up the enter space in no time making the space warm and cosy, even for the most cold-blooded among us.

Your Cabin is equipped with enough firewood and fire lighters for your entire stay. If you run out of firewood, please use a green cart to replenish your supplies at the wood shed but please be mindful of your firewood usage. The stoves are super efficient and the cabins warm up very easily.

What do you mean by ‘self-sufficient or 'off- gird'?

Self-sufficient lodging means living without direct connection to mains electricity or water. Not only are you going back to basics (in comfort), you also gain more respect for nature and the environment and that’s a big part of what we stand for. You become acquainted with a slower pace of life and learn to accept nature as it is.

Upon your arrival, you are provided with a charged battery – powered by solar panels on the roof. In addition, you get a water reservoir filled with filtered rainwater for washing. Water for drinking and cooking are provided separately. At normal consumption levels, you can live completely self-sufficiently with ‘zero impact’ for several days (the winter months are a bit more of a challenge). So as your cabin’s battery discharges, yours recharges.

What is the minimum night stay?

We offer a two night minimum stay. This is so you can truly slow down and disconnect from the interruptions of modern life.
