At Slow Cabins, we believe in disconnecting to reconnect with what’s truly important. That’s why we’re inviting you to spend more time outdoors this summer. Being outdoors does not only bring us back to the things that matter, but it also gives us the time and space to reflect and recharge.

Whether you’re planning to stay put or ready to go far, here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy spending time in nature during the summer:

Go to a botanical garden

Especially for city dwellers, planning a visit to the local botanical garden is an easy and wonderful way to reconnect with the natural world. Apart from being a tranquil oasis, it’s inspiring to surround yourself with the kaleidoscope of colors, fragrances and textures nature has to offer. Even just sitting in a bench while you observe the buzzing of the bees and flowers dancing in the wind does a lot of wonders for our body and mind.

Enjoy a picnic

Going on a picnic is like a bite-sized vacation. It’s the perfect excuse to break away from the everyday routine. Not only does time in the sunshine lead to a better mood and reduced stress levels, it also is a refreshing way to catch up with friends and bond with the family. Plus, it usually comes with a view, which makes it all the more fun to do. Just make sure you don’t forget the sunscreen!

Exercise outdoors

Outdoor exercise combines two health-enhancing activities: moving your body and getting outdoors. Just the fresh air alone makes taking your physical activity outside feel relaxing. It’s also a very good way to help you feel grounded. deepen your connection to your environment and develop a better appreciation of your environment.

Hike a new trail

Whether you’re new to hiking or you’ve been hiking trails for years, take advantage of the warm weather to get moving and explore a new trail. Not only does it ignite a sense of adventure, immersing yourself in a completely new environment is a good way to give your mind a true break. No matter the distance or the difficulty level, any hike will benefit your mind and your body.

Spend a few nights in nature

Although a simple walk in the park can already give you the benefits of nature, longer escapes are more beneficial. Spending three days out in nature seems to be the sweet spot in helping you truly turn off all the noise and notifications. Sleeping in nature also helps you sleep better, as it resets your internal clock back to a natural sleep cycle, leading to a deeper sense of relaxation.
