About a Slow Cabins weekend

What exactly are 'Slow Cabins®'?

Slow Cabins are temporary eco houses that are completely self-sufficient when it comes to water and electricity provisions. They are situated in secret locations close to home, and there is no Internet, which means that you slow down and break free from the stress of everyday life. Curious? Take a look at the photos here!

What do you meamn by 'self-sufficient'?

Self-sufficient lodging is unique. Not only do you improve your connection with the basic elements of life, you also gain more respect for nature and the environment. You become acquainted with the slow rhythm of nature and learn to accept it as it is.

Upon your arrival, you are given (literally) a fully charged battery – charged by autonomous energy generation methods. In addition, you may also make use of a substantial water reservoir filled with filtered rainwater. At normal consumption levels, you can live completely self-sufficiently with ‘zero impact’ for several days (even during the winter months).

Although, during your self-sufficient stay, heightened awareness of how you use energy and water is essential. Throughout your stay, you can monitor the degree of self-sufficiency, as well as the rainwater level, on a display in the slow cabin. This raises consciousness and promotes active awareness of the positive footprint during a self-sufficient stay. Off-the-grid vacations are no longer a romantic dream – they’re an absolute reality!

Where are the Slow Cabins located?

Our Slow Cabins are set up at temporary locations, which we keep strictly confidential. Don’t worry, they are no further than 2 hours’ drive from the large cities (Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Liège, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague). So, there is always one in your neck of the woods, so to speak! When you make a reservation, you will receive information about how to get to your Slow Cabin two weeks before departure. At that time, you will also receive info about activities in the neighbourhood, from beautiful walks to cosy local eateries and other surprising slow activities.

How many people can stay in a 'Slow Cabin'?

Would you like to book a Slow Cabin with your family or with a group of friends? Great idea! Since we want to keep the impact of our cabins on the environment as low as possible, a Slow Cabin can sleep up to four persons.

Our Time-for-Family cabins also provide you the opportunity to bring along a baby or toddler. We can set up a cot for you upon request. Please select this option under ‘extra services’ when making your reservation.

Help, I have to cancel my stay!

Oh no, that is too bad! Contact us as soon as possible at info@slowcabins.com so we can search together for a solution.

Do I bring my own food with me, or can I also reserve meals?

Due to the logistical complexity of servicing the Slow Cabins, it is not yet possible to reserve meals. So, it is entirely up to you whether to bring food along, to buy something in the local shops or to go to a restaurant in the neighbourhood. In our brochures, which we send to you two weeks before your stay, you will find all kinds of great tips on where to buy typical local products and where to find the best restaurants.

Which amenities are present in a Slow Cabin?

Slow Cabins are relatively small houses (<40 m2) which contain everything you need and nothing you don’t need.

Each Slow Cabin is equipped with a queen-sized bed (including linens), a bathroom with a warm shower and toilet, a wood-burning stove in the living room, a small, furnished kitchen with a small refrigerator, a cooktop with two burners, flatware/silverware, cookware and utensils, a wood-burning barbecue (outdoor) with a grill plate and outdoor furniture. Everything you need to light the barbecue is at hand.

The most basic ingredients and supplies for the kitchen and bathroom, such as olive oil, spices, coffee, tea, soap and towels, are also present.

Our aim, by only providing the absolute necessities, is to give our guests the gift of peace, quiet and happiness.

Are there activities in and around the Slow Cabin?

Definitely! Two weeks before your stay, we will send you not only the info about the location of your cabin but also a brief guide to all the fun activities that are on offer in the vicinity of your Slow Cabin. What’s more, in the cabin itself you will also find various walking routes and brochures.

Review from: Ninette & Kristof

We enjoyed our stay in the slow cabin. The landscape was a beautiful spectacle to enjoy for hours, especially during the wintertime. We truly slowed down right by the glow of the campfire. At the same time, we became very aware of each other, but also of our energy consumption. The concept really appealed to us. Thank you!

Review from: Katrien & Charles

Very nice concept! Really enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and the tranquility, especially just sitting for hours in front of the fire. What a luxury! We also really loved the guide with the things to do in the area, as we love to walk around when the seasons change and nature shows its changing colors. We certainly like a second experience!

Review from: Jenna & Koen

Beautiful, cozy and durable ... has a healing effect. A wonderful feeling to be able to escape the crowds for a while. We had left our two children at home with the grandparents. We are already curious about the "Slow Cabins" in other locations. This was already highly recommended!
